A Kitchen Worth the Heavy Lifting
This kitchen transformation turned a dark, closed-off space lined with knotty pine paneling into a bold, open kitchen built for the way the homeowners live today. Removing a non-load-bearing wall between the dining room and kitchen opened the layout and brought in more natural light — no small feat given the home’s age and balloon framing construction, which required completely reframing the structure from the ground up. A doorway was removed and bricked in to allow for a cleaner, more functional cabinet layout throughout. The finished kitchen features deep navy shaker cabinetry, white quartz countertops, a subway tile backsplash, and a full stainless steel appliance package. A center island with a gas cooktop, overhead ventilation hood, three pendant lights, and under-cabinet lighting completes a space that went from cramped and dated to open, functional, and impossible to ignore.
